Responsible for researching and developing promising ways to improve student achievement throughout California. Developed policies and practices to close the state’s achievement gaps from Prek to Higher Education. Managed the Data Management Division, Child Development Division, Learning Support and Partnerships Division and Communications. Managed an over $3.8 million budget and 283 person branch.

Served as a senior advisor to the Superintendent on all major education and all major education decisions. Served as Department spokesperson. Managed a $900k budget and 5 person team.

Worked with U.S. Secretary of Education to determine and implement the Department’s message and overall strategy. Advised the Secretary on press relations and general issues. Served as Department spokesperson and supervised the development of Department communications.

Created and implemented media strategies for major initiatives. Wrote press releases and solicited media coverage for events. Planned media coverage and accompanied the Secretary during out of town travel.

Detailed periodically to the White House to coordinate site planning for the President and First Lady. Designed and ensured that event visuals were appropriate for the President and helped to convey his message. Internationally, negotiated on behalf of the White House and American Press Corps.
